Scapular Motion: Accuracy and Reliability of Anatomical Marker and Acromion Marker Cluster Methods

چکیده
INTRODUCTION To assess scapular motion using reflective skin markers, two main methods can be used. The International Society of Biomechanics recommends to place three markers on three anatomical landmarks of the scapula (3AL) [1]. This method suffers from soft tissue artefact error [2]. To reduce it, Van Andel et al., proposes the use of an acromion marker cluster (AMC). It approximates real motion but provides also error measurement [3]. To our knowledge, the evaluation of the recommended method, 3AL, and the new method, AMC, have not yet been realized during the same motion. The aim of this study was to evaluate accuracy and reliability of both methods during shoulder flexion. Palpation was carried out to obtain real scapular motion, considering this method as a gold standard for static measurement of scapula kinematics [4].

Measurement of dynamic scapular kinematics using an acromion marker cluster to minimize skin movement artifact.
The measurement of dynamic scapular kinematics is complex due to the sliding nature of the scapula beneath the skin surface. The aim of the study was to clearly describe the acromion marker cluster (AMC) method of determining scapular kinematics when using a passive marker motion capture system, with consideration for the sources of error which could affect the validity and reliability of measu...
متن کاملRecording scapular motion using an acromion marker cluster.
Disorders of the shoulder complex can be accompanied by changes in the movement pattern of the scapula. However, scapular motion is difficult to measure. A possible non-invasive method for dynamic three-dimensional kinematic measurement of the human scapula is the use of a marker cluster placed on the flat part of the acromion. A small light-weight acromion marker cluster (AMC) is presented in ...
متن کاملComparison between tripod and skin-fixed recording of scapular motion.
Non-invasive dynamical measurements of 3D scapular motion can be performed easily by attachment of a 6 DOF electromagnetic receiver onto the skin above the acromion. To quantify the introduction of possible errors due to skin displacement, we assessed 3D scapular positions on n=8 subjects by both tripod and skin-fixed method. Error analysis included the variables method (tripod, skin-fixed simu...

This special issue presents papers that arose from the bi-annual International Shoulder Group (ISG) meeting in Minneapolis in July 2010. The ISG is a collaboration of mostly biomechanically oriented research groups, whose main interest is in the shoulder. It was founded in 1989 and has been a Technical Group of the International Society of Biomechanics since 1999. The ISG aims to enhance should...
متن کاملThree-dimensional scapular kinematics during the throwing motion.
Proper scapular motion is crucial for normal shoulder mechanics. Scapular motion affects glenohumeral joint function during throwing, yet little is known about this dynamic activity. Asymptomatic subjects (10 male and 10 female), ages 21 to 45, were analyzed. Electromagnetic surface sensors on the sternum, acromion, and humerus were used to collect 3-D motion data during three trials of low-vel...
